This past weekend we had the privilege of attending a magical fundraising gala for the Motherless Daughters Organization here in Atlanta. The gala was held at the Georgia International Convention Center. The décor was fit for the princesses that these girls are and they walked the red carpet with such grace. The gala served as the major fundraiser to raise money to continue the work with these girls. This gala also included a silent auction that included items donated by T.I. and a guitar signed by BB King and Prince among other things.
We also witnessed the emotional speeches from two of the organization’s graduating seniors, and an awards ceremony honoring key players who are making a huge impact in today’s society. Honorees included: former NFL Player-Demario Presley, Queen the Natural Hair Care Empire-Taliah Waajid, Senator Donzella James-State of Georgia, and Myrna White-Director of the Office of Public Affairs for Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The keynote speaker for the night was Xermona Clayton, CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation and an honorary mother for the girls. Ms. Clayton gave an empowering speech teaching women 5 ways how to DE-Mask themselves in order to be successful in life.
ABOUT MOTHERLESS DAUGHTERS:
Founded by Rassalyn Willis, motherless Daughters is an organization that is committed to embracing and encouraging the growth and development of young girls entering their adolescent years without the support of their natural birth mother due to unforeseen circumstances. Through enrichment programs and focusing on self-awareness, social development, and community development, their hope is to provide an environment that will build character, promote confidence, release charm and cultivate the beauty that each Motherless Daughter beholds. These young ladies ages nine to 15 participate in a variety of educational workshops and are also paired with relatable mentors.
MISSION: Motherless Daughters is a mentoring program that offers year-round support so that girls can become empowered to embrace every aspect of adolescent life and ultimately succeed in spite of challenging circumstances.
