I met Stephen on the set of Greenleaf, season 1 where we were both working. There are so many words that I can say about Stephen but, I will tell you this about him, in one-word GENTLEMAN. A true gentleman through and through with a huge heart that is dedicated to his craft in every way.
Stephen began working in this industry at the end of 2013 when he began doing small projects with MTV but really launched his career at the beginning of 2015. What made him enter the entertainment industry and excites him about it is the ability to express himself freely through art and the amount of opportunity that this industry has for artists. The fact that he can open up his imagination as if he was a child all over again and be able to portray whether it be a doctor or a lawyer really gets him excited. The amount of opportunities that are opening up for people of color and minorities really allows him to be excited about the future for this industry.
Stephen focuses primarily on acting although sometimes he’ll do some print work modeling. He would love to write in the future and knows he would need to take the proper courses to get better but definitely would love to jump into writing. Also, one day he has aspirations to produce and direct his original content.
Stephen’s training includes study with Greg Alan Williams at the Greg Alan Williams Actors Breakthrough. He also has some professional mentors who have trained and coached him. He can honestly say that he learned a ton from working as a background artist, specifically as a stand-in. Some would say that the best learning tool is hands-on experience and has learned a ton as a result. Plus, it is an education that you get paid for. I can attest to his statement because as a writer and a content producer I have learned so much as a background artist. All you have to do is pay attention, be conscious of your surroundings, and learn from everything you can. Background artistry is not just simply being an extra walking in the background it’s education if you utilize every opportunity to learn.
“Only the journey can be written, not the destination.”
Coming up for Stephen is a recent episode of Fatal Attraction on TV One and has also been blessed to be a part of a new 10-week series coming to FOX titled Shots Fired which premieres on March 22 at 8 pm. With Shots Fired he truly believes that this show is going to touch and change the world and he’s extremely grateful to have been able to be a part of the epic series. I was able to attend the Atlanta screening of Shots Fired and I have to agree with Stephen this show is going to touch the world with its amazing powerful narrative. It will keep you engaged from beginning to the end. He also will appear on an episode of Snapped: Killer Couples airing later this Spring.
